Could you please clarify what you mean by "lost his site?" Are you referring to the content of the site or ownership of the domain name?

he did the site with another company a couple of years ago.. this comapny went bust. but he spent a lot of money on it and would to put it upo again. trying to track the maintainer to see if they have a copy on their backups

if his domain name was hijacked, he will have to hijack it back, possibly

if the content was lost, it might have been archived, but I assume you tried the wayback machine
